DIAL by Christodoulos Makris

DIAL is a work of poetic prose by poet Christodoulos Makris, transcribing 5 minutes of real-time, automatic transcription of broadcasts from a different talk radio station every day through the year 2021, linked by equally short pieces of 'original' writing composed contemporaneously. There are gaps, jumps, awkward enjambments, errors or mishearings, instances of fragmented grammar and other non-linear elements, which destabilise the text and have the effect of leaving interpretation flexible, allowing the reader multiple points of entry. The pace and tone are dictated by the transcribed material, with the ‘original’ sections stitching together the styles of what comes before and after. The demand on each reader is to become an active contributor to the ‘meaning’ of the text.
